Crybaby Bridge is a common urban legend applied to bridges. Most are named this due to a wide-spread claim that the sound of a baby can be, or has been, heard from the bridge. Many are also accompanied by an urban legend of a baby or young child/children being killed nearby, or thrown from the bridge into the river or creek below. - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crybaby_BridgeOn TIPS, a paranormal investigating group in Charlotte NC checked out their local legend and found out the crying sound THERE is most likely otters!! I thought that was interesting. Anyone else have any theories about why this legend is so common?

I did a little bit of reading about crybaby bridges in my area. Most of them are in or near areas that are associated with other legends, like Gore Orphanage Road, Rogue's Hollow and Helltown. So around here, the crybaby bridge legends were probably just made up to go along with the area's other legends.

I used to live 5 minutes from Gore Orphanage rd, and as a teenager I thought it was cool to go there. What a disappointment when I found out it was a hoax, and the orphanage there never burned.
