There are several different legends behind Lake Ronkonkoma. The most popular is the Indian princess that drowned in the lake trying to get across the lake to be with her love who she was forbiden to see. The other is that she fell in love a white man & wasn't allowed to be with him. So after years, she paddled across the lake but when she reached her lover, she was dead in the canoe. I believe that all urban legends have to stemp from some kind of truth.

I agree, there are tons of stories that seem to follow along the lines of someone drowning in a lake or stream. It's sifting through the urban legends to get to the facts that is often times grueling, and frustrating. Good luck on the research Let me know what you find!

One thing that freaked me out a little...As i was trying to read this, my reading light kept flickering and so did the brightness on my computer screen.
