I figured that since we have the worst book thread, we really need the best book thread as well.
For me, my personal favorite is Phantom of the Opera (yes, it was a book before it was a musical). I've read it at least 4 times.
Another personal favorite, this time from my childhood, is Mr. Pine's Purple House. I'm still trying to get a new copy of this children's book for myself... should I ever have children of my own.

I'm gonna have to go with "The Lord of the Rings" since I'm a total geek! I have the leather-bound collector's edition that includes the whole trilogy, maps, family trees and a key to translate Elvish runes.
Another fav is "From Baghdad with Love" about one of the dogs that was shipped to the US from Baghdad by a soldier.

My favorite book is one that made a lasting impression on me since childhood. I read it over and over. The book, Angel Unaware, is a short story written by Dale Evans about the brief life of their child. Ironically, I live about 5 miles away now from Roy Rogers and Dale Evans horseshoe-shaped home where they raised their family and went through this experience. I found the reviews on Amazon and each and every one of them echo my sentiments exactly:
I, too, lost my copy and found the book out of print- I'm going to buy this on Amazon and let my kids read it.
What others saw as a "problem child" Dale saw as a precious, rare, and very treasured gift.

OMG I remember that book, JJ. In fact, I might still have it ... somewhere in a million boxes of stuff. I read that when I was a kid. Wow, good book!

I AM AMERICA (AND SO CAN YOU) by Stephen Colbert. Not really, but it was a very funny book. My favorite would probably be NO LOGO by Naomi Klein. This book has changed my perspective on marketing, advertising, and how materialistic of a culture we are. It gives an inside look at company's like NIKE, sweatshop abuse, and outsourcing. I highly recommend this book!!!

I like Dan Brown as well - Angels and Demons, The Davinci Code Which of those did you like better? I preferred Angels and Demons depsite all the hoopla over Davinci Code. I guess Davinci Code was just more controversial.
