I was just watching the governor of Louisiana announcing that the National Hurricane Center has advise him that this storm can be "as bad as it gets." I remember watching the ominous news of Katrina just three years ago and this has the potential to be 'much worse' than Katrina. God be with these people. www.nhc.noaa.gov/graphics_at2.shtml?5day

I'm really scared for these people. I can't image knowing a hurricane could be headded my way!
Seems like they're somewhat more prepared this time. People are not allowed to leave now without their pets, and I know Animal groups are offering to take people's pets to safety and return them once the storm has passed in case they can't take them with them.

I was wondering about that as I watched hundreds of people waiting in line to take buses out of town to train stations or airports. Where are these people's animals? Left to fend for themselves? God forbid.
I also think it's going to be interesting to see how the RNC will handle this confluence of events. I'm hoping they'll postpone it.

I heard some hotels were volunteering to take in animals.

I heard this storm is now a catagory 4! That is only second to the most powerful catagory!

People are really freaking out about this along the south coast. I went down to Corpus Christi on the weekend and the people there seemed to be convinced the hurricane is going to hit there full force. It seems that now that people have seen the damage that Katrina caused, they're more willing to evacuate to safety until the hurricane passes. A lot of shelters are already booked, too. I just wish something like this could've been done for Katrina.

I'm so thankful it dealt a glancing blow and not the full-hammered force it could have been. Now we look to Hanna, and I think Ike is down the pike. LOL I made a rhyme Hanna is headed for the Carolinas and VA- my college stomping grounds.
