Just when we thought things couldn't get any worse .... the news today is almost too much to bear. I am choking back tears as I post this .... <sob> ... hold my hand, Deb ....
Officials: Damage to collider forces 2-month halt Sat Sep 20, 7:34 AM ET The European Organization for Nuclear Research says its new particle collider has been damaged worse than previously thought and will be out of commission for at least two months.
On Thursday, the organization said the collider — the world's largest — malfunctioned within hours of its launch to great fanfare, but its operator didn't report the problem for a week.
Spokesman James Gillies says experts have gone into the Large Hadron Collider to examine the damage.
Gillies said Saturday the part that was damaged will have to be warmed up well above absolute zero so that repairs can be made. He said that will require having to shut off the new particle collider do to the repairs.

I mean, if you thought it would bring us better understanding of the universe, then, yes, it's bad news. But, if you thought that the damn thing was going to bring us a better understanding of the events that followed the big bang by actually causing a new big bang, thus destroying this existence and creating a new universe from the old one (hopefully one where Jerry Springer doesn't have a tv career), then it's fabulous news. Unless you were simply being sarcastic, then which I'll just shut up now.

Unless you were simply being sarcastic, then which I'll just shut up now. I'm voting for the four-year plan where the events today show up four years from now as the planet is destroyed. The problem with that is it will happen just about the time I am finishing unpacking from the last move. Why can't these things happen before I start packing?
