OK, so the 504 point drop in the stock market seems to be yet another nail in the coffin here. Massive hurricanes; global warming; banks failing; Lehman Brothers, Merrill Lynch folding after more than a century of existence; Russia attacking Georgia and now threatening Poland for God sakes; Iraq; Iran; Afghanistan; North Korea amping up their nukes again... jjjjjeeeeeezzzz!
Unbelievable!
Your thoughts...?

R.E.M.
It's the end of the world as we know it (And I feel fine)
That's great, it starts with an earthquake, birds and snakes, an aeroplane - Lenny Bruce is not afraid. Eye of a hurricane, listen to yourself churn - world serves its own needs, regardless of your own needs. Feed it up a knock, speed, grunt no, strength no. Ladder structure clatter with fear of height, down height. Wire in a fire, represent the seven games in a government for hire and a combat site. Left her, wasn't coming in a hurry with the furies breathing down your neck. Team by team reporters baffled, trump, tethered crop. Look at that low plane! Fine then. Uh oh, overflow, population, common group, but it'll do. Save yourself, serve yourself. World serves its own needs, listen to your heart bleed. Tell me with the rapture and the reverent in the right - right. You vitriolic, patriotic, slam, fight, bright light, feeling pretty psyched.
It's the end of the world as we know it. It's the end of the world as we know it. It's the end of the world as we know it and I feel fine.
Six o'clock - TV hour. Don't get caught in foreign tower. Slash and burn, return, listen to yourself churn. Lock him in uniform and book burning, blood letting. Every motive escalate. Automotive incinerate. Light a candle, light a motive. Step down, step down. Watch a heel crush, crush. Uh oh, this means no fear - cavalier. Renegade and steer clear! A tournament, a tournament, a tournament of lies. Offer me solutions, offer me alternatives and I decline.
It's the end of the world as we know it. It's the end of the world as we know it. It's the end of the world as we know it and I feel fine.
The other night I tripped a nice continental drift divide. Mount St. Edelite. Leonard Bernstein. Leonid Breshnev, Lenny Bruce and Lester Bangs. Birthday party, cheesecake, jelly bean, boom! You symbiotic, patriotic, slam, but neck, right? Right.
It's the end of the world as we know it. It's the end of the world as we know it. It's the end of the world as we know it and I feel fine...fine...
(It's time I had some time alone)

We are going to hell in a handbasket, and we really have no one to blame except our selves. When we keep pushing one way eventually opposite forces will push back. Now leave me alone so I can practice my tai chi.

The history of the world has always been about conflicts and wars, and the fall of countries. We've been lucky to live in THIS country, at least until recently, when many of our civil liberties have been taken away, and we're so much in the red that we probably cannot recover. I give us, oh, 100 more years. That's about it.

Yesterday was an interesting day for me - because of my job, I spent the better part of the day reading/talking about Lehman Bros., Merrill Lynch, AIG and the market drop. I couldn't even get on most of the financial news websites because their servers were too busy. What a frigging mess!

I recall reading somewhere that, historically, world powers tend to enjoy their status for about 150-200 years, then it ebbs and someone else takes over as top banana. The demise of a top power comes in the form of greed, whether it be military, monetary, or colonial in nature. I think this is happening to us and next up: China.
We are too deep in debt to ever get out and the one holding our pursestrings is China- they've been lending to us freely and all the while taking our freedom slowly and quietly. I believe this is only the beginning of us paying the piper, so to speak.

Talk about pessimism...
Yes, things look bad. Hurricanes are running rampant. Global warming is wrecking (sp?) havoc with the weather. Companies are failing, the stock market crashed, countries are threatening other countries, and Joe Lieberman is still senator from Connecticut. Worse yet, some calendar maker from MesoAmerica said who knows how many years ago that his calendar will end on December 21, 2012 (or sooner, if it's true that the date was figured out wrong), implying that the world will end on that day. Then there's CERN with the potential black hole creation problem.
yes, things look bad. But, then, things have looked bad in the past, too. Two Gulf Wars, 9/11, Y2K, Iran Contra, The 1970s gas crisis, Watergate, Vietnam, the Korean War, WW2, the Great Depression, The Dust Bowl, WW1, The Civil War, Krakatoa (I gave up on reverse chronology by now), the Little Ice Age, the American Revolution, Napoleon, The Black Death, the Dark Ages, the Fall of the Roman Empire, Mt. Vesuvius. Through all of this (and more) the world has endured. Heck, even the us, we fragile human beings, have endured. And we will continue to endure. We will face the hardships that are now before them, rise above them, and conquer them!
(Imagine Handel's Messiah playing when you read that, or When Jonny Comes Marching Home Again)

Very Inspirational GG.
JJ are you saying we all are going to be required to speak Chinese soon? That sucks I have a hard enough time with the english language.
Seriously thought things are looking quite dim for our country right now. I am not sure if a new president can do much to change this. If I think too much it makes me sad so I am heading to my happy place. I am meeting Joe at Boston Market for dinner.

I was listening to the radio and they were talking about what to do if your bank fails. I never thought in a million years this would be something we might have to worry about. Well, we can just pray and get through the tough times the best we can. We all know we can rely on our friends here to lend an ear if you are having a tough time. My door is always open. We will be ok we are the FREAKING United States of America.
