I thought it would be interesting to go over some of the tools that the Ghost Hunters use and how they work (or if they work at all). Feel free to post your insight on anything from digital recorders to dowsing rods. I've had a first hand chance to use a couple of the devices you might have seen on the show so I'll share on some of those also.
This is open for all opinions, don't just come in here and say, "the KII meter is bull", give us a reason for your claims.
Pictures are welcome.

Okay sorry I don't know much about the Techno stuff but how exactly does the stupid KII meter work? I really don't like how they've been using it more and more but I have no idea how it works.
Dream's in Disney, lucky him

Thats what it looks like, they use a quarter in it to keep it on. It is easy to manipulate, we have one here at our plant. It goes off around cell phones and anything else that gives off e.m.f. When they ask questions, all someone needs to due is turn on and off electrical breakers to make it react like somethings answering it. We tested out that theory here. I should make a video of it, but I think dreamsinger is already doing that.

So what is the difference between the KII meter and the EMF meter?

From what I read it looks like blinking lights. So all of us dorks like me who get distracted by shiney things will get distracted and not notice what they're doing...

Yeah L.C.'s right, plus it's easier to use the KII in the dark. The E.M.F. has a back light function, but for the purpose of letting the audience see the reaction the KII lights up like a Christmas tree.
The KII is the worst of their tools, very easily manipulated.

Hey Bowl, you said that the KII reacts to cell phones. Do you think GH could use their walkie talkies to manipulate it? When they use the KII, the camera is always zoomed in on it so the guys could easily be messing with the walkies out of view. Just a thought because of the Gettysburg (I think?) episode where the TV was turning on and off because of the walkies.

They did the same thing with the E.M.F. detectors, anytime they would spike all you could see is the instrument. Theres plenty of things that could trigger that to go off, but remember, it's a successful show I'm sure that they can have them made to go off remotely.

Since I'm a tech dummy, I have to ask....why are the digital recordings for EVP's always so fuzzy? I used to have an old handheld tape recorder and it seemed to make clearer recordings. I would think the sound quality would be much better with a digital recorder.

Dreamsiner has finished his K II Meter video and written an article. He should be posting a link to it soon. He'll probably be posting the original on his Darkrealmlabs site - I don't know yet.

I would think the sound quality would be much better with a digital recorder. They say that they record them against white noise, which I never see them do. I think they're fuzzy because of all the fake voices they put in. I've done a few evps and nothing was ever fuzzy. You have to be careful though, when ever you set them down do it gently, it will cause a lot of noise if you don't.

Yea I've heard some evp's from other paranormal groups and they were creepy in how clear they were. I agree that often times on GH it sounds like junk and we can't make anything out.

What are everyone's thoughts about the FLIR thermal imager?
I used to be impressed by the thermal images captured by GH waaaaay back when, but then Dustin (or maybe Dream?) posted a thermal image of a gas stovetop. The image showed that the FLIR did not pick up on the air temperature over the stovetop, only the temperature of the "solid" parts of the stovetop. Given that information, how does GH pass off thermal images of proof of anything? (other than the fact that they catch crew members and cats every now and then).
