I think it was a lot like Pompei (sp?). There may have been an island, paradise even, but some event caused it to either sink, or blow up

Mhm Chrissy that idea is hard for me to swallow too. While I believe that it is very possible, even reasonable to suspect that a thriving Island civilization once existed, some major castrophic event took it under. Did you know that they believe they have pinpointed a couple of sites that they think use to be Atlantis?

I agree with the natural catastrophe theory. Homer(greek writer) even documented it's existence. I'd be willing to believe if the library at Alexandria wasn't lost to fire we'd have some clear documentation on Atlantis.

It's sad, we've lost so much history because of careless destruction!

Atlantis was destroyed but the survivors founded Egypt. Most Atlantians assended to a higher plain of exsistince before the destruction. Those that chose to remain migrated to Egypt to help teach less evolved humans to achieve the higher plain that the Alantians achieved.
Just a random hypothisis I have been working on.

There was a great show on the History Channel about the advanced civilization on the island of Crete. They were destroyed when a volcano nearby exploded sending massive Tsunamis at Crete. Records of the times, mainly from the Egyptions, said that the civilzation was far in advance of anybody of the times. But, it also said that the people on Crete were only a colony. Further investigation discovered that indeed there was a civilation on the island with the volcano. This civilzation, despite not having electricity, had running water, air conditioning, indoor toilets, indirect lighting, far in advance of even Crete. This, they believe, was Atlantis.

Atlantis was Herculaium (sp?) It was built by these people (I can't remember their name) They were very powerful. So powerful that they did not have a fortified city...they had nothing to fear! Anyhoo....there was a giant volcano on the island and that blew!! They figure it was the same level of volcano as the one that got Pompii) All that is left is a circle of remaining bits of the larger island!

Herculaneum was a city not too far from Pompeii. Both were built by Rome. Unlike Pompeii, which was a bit of a resort town, Herculaneum was a more normal town and did not have the tourist trappings of Pompeii. What both cities did have was Vesuvius sitting nearby and both cities were taken out in the same series of eruptions. The civilization on Crete and its mother city existed far earlier off the coast of Greece (Helene). They were around when Egypt was coming in to power.
