For those of you who missed this show about the young woman who was haunted by an old hag ghost, which is an actual diagnosed sleep deprivation condition, it's going to be on at 8:30 tonight EDT. Here is the link for the "Old Hag Syndrome" www.castleofspirits.com/sleepparalysis.html

But her room mate experienced the same thing. I'm getting pretty upset at these hags bothering college kids. They have enough pressure on them as it is without some hag keeping them up at night. I think it's time for a "freedom from hags" movement. Down with hags ... down with hags ... down with hags ...

I agree with you Bob. Maybe you want to get the ball rolling on that movement.

It's statistically proven that 77% of the population experiences hypnogogic hallucinations of one degree or the other.
Hypnogogia is the intermediate stage between being awake and being asleep, and is responsible not only for the Old Hag Syndrome, but the Intruder Syndrome, as well. The Intruder Syndrome is when people claim to be visited by aliens for the purpose of abduction.
Hypnogogia is often mistaken for demonic activity, since people are awaken suddenly with the sleep hormone Adenosine still surpressing their voluntary musculature movements. It's a fascinating physiological process that accounts for a great number of reported "hauntings" and alien visititations.

It has to be a terrifying thing for the person who goes through it. My son suffered night terrors a few years ago and for him to see something so vividly that was not there was very scary as his mother.

Especially when hypnopompic (while awakening) or hypnagogic (while falling asleep) hallucinations are accompanying sleep paralysis. Sleep terrors, as described by Hoobsmom, occur only in kids. Sleep paralysis is responsible for some of the accusations of witchcraft in history. All of these are associated with narcolepsy.
There are great descriptions of these and other sleep disorders at www.sleepeval.com/hypnagogic_hallucinations.htm
