OK .. figured we needed a place to talk about this wonderful Parker brothers game. My experience (which only like 5 people know about) I will now share.. BUT I want others to share too I was at a birthday party for my friend Sonja when I was in 6th grade. There was 6 of us girls there at her house (old house in the city) and we decided to play with the thing. None of us believe back then we all just used to move it to spell the names of guys we crushed on etc. But her dad left with her brother to go get another girl for the party and us girls where home alone (i know good parenting , anyhow) .. about 10 minutes after he left we closed the plastic sliding door (those plastic fan like blinds typa door) and closed the shades .. and we started playing .. me and sonja where in charge of it and the girls where all around us .. so we started but then we stopped when we heard a bang. We jumped said forget it and were gonna go in the kitchen for some food but the fan door wouldnt open, neither would the shades, the lights went out and we started screaming about 30 seconds later (though it felt like an hour) we heard her father running up the front stairs (from hearing us scream) and he couldnt unlock the front door so he had to run out back and come in that way when he finally got the back door open everything went back to normal, including the front door easily opening. Her father wanted to know wht heppened, but none of us said anything about it just said we were playing around. None of us ever hung out again and I have never touched or been in the presence of a board ever since. And especially never told anyone becuase they think its a young girls imagination but if it was just my imagination .. all these years later im still freaked out, then it made enough of an impact on me. How bout you guys , anything ?

when my wife and i were just "friends" before we started dating we decided it would be fun to play with my ouija board. i refused to use the board in my parents home because they had their house blessed by the priest from their church and i didnt want to de-sanctify their home. so we used the board in the front atrium. long story short ... it was night time when we started asking questions ... silly things like what's my middle name, et. al. and it answered them fairly accurate. we both had trust in the other that we were not moving the little planchette, but i still had my doubts about her. so we asked the board what pager codes (yes im that old) we had assigned to out high school sweethearts (i knew she didnt know my codes and i didnt know hers) so we felt pretty safe with that question. well the board answered it correctly! by this time we'd been using the board for about 20 min or so and we had noticed that there was a lot of wind blowing by this time. of course it spooked us out, but it was just prob the normal wind ... nothing paranormal. so anywho ... we ended up asking the board if the two of us would end up dating ... it said we would get married! so fastfoward into the future ... we went our separate ways and to our respective colleges and then came back together and .... GOT MARRIED!! EEEEK!! so do these things work ... i dont know, but it was a pretty freaking awesome experience!
ps i've heard that if you throw it away it will come into your life somehow ... im afraid to throw mine away !

The thing with ouija boards is that I haven't heard too many good things about them.
For believers, they are not such a good idea because they could attract negative spirits.
For non believers, they are not a good idea because people, especially people who are grieving a loss and thinking they can connect with a loved one through it, it can develop unhealthy habits.
I did come across a very interesting website named Museum of talking boards and those people have a very impressive collection of them, stemming from antiques to modern day boards.

I've used an oujia board one time.. I was at my then-friend Alissa's birthday party (sleepover)..well throughout the night we all tried scaring eachother..screaming...pointing to the window and saying we saw stuff through it..yada yada yada.. So then this girl Rema claimed that she had been communicating with a spirit named Ben and suggested we play with the ouija board. So we all ((except one girl who was too scared)) went into the bathroom, placed a lit candle in the middle of board, sat on the ground and placed one finger on the planchette (nothing happened with it) there were about 6 13 yr old girls in the group (meaning anyone could be faking the following circumstances)..and so Rema starts asking 'Ben' questions..and the flame started getting larger and smaller (probably nothing paranormal)..and we hear knocking...Im not entirely convinced it was something paranormal...it could of easily been a trick by any of those girls..but either way I havent touched one since.

We used to play with a board and hold seances at sleep-overs when I was a kid. My best friend always sat next to me and would push the marker around to make it say rude things. When we did seances, we sat around in a circle with our eyes closed holding hands. My friend would always let go of my hand and move something (or tap on the typewriter on the desk behind us). Everyone always swore that the circle was never broken, but I knew differently. I guess that is why I'm always a little skeptical about such things!

When we were young my brothers and I went to our cousin's house and she had a board. At the time there was a boy who had a crush on me and my brothers endlessly teased me about it. They asked the board, "Who is our sister going to marry?" and the board started spelling out M....A....R.... at which point I flipped out and tossed the board across the room- I thought they were spelling out Martin, the boy who had a crush on me. They swore up and down that they didn't do anything (ya, right). Years later, after I was married, one of my brothers pointed out my last name is what the Ouija Board was spelling out.. Mar**. I kind of wish I didn't flip out- it would be interesting grist for the mill.

And this Youtube Ouija Board video is interesting. The girls don't even know what the word meant after the Ouija Board spells it out. To me, it lends credibility to the event: www.youtube.com/watch?v=CkXqgJhSclY
