Holy cow, how much did it weigh? Is that a salt water or fresh water gar? That's amazing, I've seen smaller fish win records, you could be famous!

I don't remember but it was very big! And very ugly!!!
The live in freah water lakes and I have seen small ones in the 34-foot deep ditches that are always alongside the roads in the Louisiana! They get very heavy rain storms so then need a big way to divert the water off the roads and over into the bayous.

I'm actually going out on a boat this weekend and they said that there are some pretty big ones out on Lake Erie. What do you suggest I use as bait? I'm more of a pond and river fisher, haven't done the whole boat thing that often.

Dang I don't remember what we used for bait....since I don't bait my own hooks!!!
I would think live minnows would work.

My son and I fish regularly. We went to a small pond on Thursday after he got out of school. With him being so young, I always let him reel in my catches. This time he got two large mouth bass and a bluegill. He really wanted to keep a fish so I let him bring home one large mouth, it was a tiny thing anyways. So there you have it, I have a large mouth bass swimming around with my African Cichlids. It's amazing, they don't really fight! That darn fish better start eating fish food though, I'm running out of worms! That is a great story, bowl. I bought one of those small fishing rigs for my granddaughter, including a little Barbie tackle box. We went down to the river and on her first or second cast, she caught one. It was hard for her to maintain enough control to reel it in, but she did. Talk about an excited little girl!! LOL It was a small Small-mouth. We carefully took it off the hook, let it go, and watched it swim away. She yelled after the fish, "Thank you! Grow bigger and I'll catch you later." I about fell down laughing.
What a great afternoon that was. We've been fishing many times since then. Now she is 7 years old and a very accurate caster. I put a weight on her line when we're not fishing, and she practices constantly. Thanks for the great stories, Bowl and Bob! Little kids do the funniest stuff. Is that fish still alive, Bowl? And does it eat fish food now? lol

Yes it's still alive and growing, problem is... it doesnt eat fish food. We have to buy special food just for that fish or go out and catch worms or crickets to feed it. What a pain in the butt! You will learn, being a parent isn't easy but everyday there is a new adventure! p.s. if any real fisherman come in here, I would like to state for the records... This is who caught this fish, not someone else who claimed they did.

Thanks for researching that fish for us, Bowl. The person who caught it deserves ALOT of credit for catching such a monster.
