i honestly think this lady was not the strongest in the mental health area. and i think people took advantage of her in her grief and then she started messing with stuff she shouldnt have been.
and when gh went there i remember thinking that their reasons for saying its haunted were kind of weak and i dont think its haunted but everyone wants to think it is. bring in that almighty dollar to our haunted house and see a creepy old lady ghost!!!

I've never been there, but I've always been fascinated by the Winchester House. I tried to convince my hubby to take me there last time we went to Lake Tahoe, but he wouldn't.

I've never been there, but I've always been fascinated by the Winchester House. I tried to convince my hubby to take me there last time we went to Lake Tahoe, but he wouldn't. I was there a few years ago. We took the tour and went through the gift shop (bought a ref magnet). It is an interesting place. The room where Sarah Winchester was when the 1906 earthquake hit is amazing. I recommend it to anyone who is in the San Jose area.

Ok, I'm totally jealous of you guys! I have a thing for historic architecture and the paranormal so I know I'd love that place. But my hubby doesn't get me most of the time.

I went there with my mom when she was alive. We didnt have any experiences though. It was anamazing place though. I agree with LC she was not mentally stable. I just hope she has found peace in the after life because I don't think she had peace while alive. Thats why I really hope this place is not haunted by her.

While I was there I was hoping to get some kind of a feeling.....But I cannot say that I really felt anything expect that was a really great house and I wish I had some of the rooms that were there!!
Was Sarah Winchester crazy...my opinion is no just excentric and bored ! She made $1,000 per day on interest off of her inhertiance. That is about the equal to $20,000 in today's dollars!!! How was she to spend her time ws up to her...maybe she just like building and decorating and the paranormal....
When I went through I was in the 13th group that day!!! Spooky!!!

I think the Winchester House is haunted as well literarysnob. One thing that the GH weren't doing was bringing in mediums to stur the place a little bit. But again GH is almost all taking the science approach.

After her death her house was sold and used as a "haunted House" thing and that is possibly where the house got deemed as haunted.
But from what I remember from my tour and reading she was not unbalanced but rather a very shrood business woman. She paid her workers very well, and the mention to the bolts of fabric she would purchase, well she had a very large house and staff. The fabric went to linens and clothing for her workers.
I contend that she was lonely and bored. But had an interest in building and architeture and expressed that in the building constantly. When I heard that she earned $1,000 per day of interest on her inheritances. Well on can be a little excentric can't one! Think about what you would do if you earned that money!!! and that's in turn of the 20th century dollars...that would equal about 20,000 in today dollars!!!
If you knew no financial limitations what would you do to pass your time away???

Hasn't anybody ever wanted to tell a contractor to build a door to nowhere, a dead staircase, or even a door-less room?! Kind of makes a person sick to realize the amount of time and energy she wasted on this endeavor--at least she was creating jobs though; kind of a financial redistribution of wealth.
Yeah lady, the ghosts will kill you unless you sign my paycheck and that of my framing crew...
