In this episode, the crew goes to investigate a private home where the woman is too scared to sleep in her own home. Upon going there, they learn that not only is this home scary to her, but it was terrifying to her daughters growing up in it. Her daughter is interviewed and describes a childhood of fears in her own bedroom, and being so scared she slept with the covers pulled up over her head at all times. Then she states this was because of creepy dark figures and loud foot steps she heard in the attic above her. Now at this point, I was wondering why, if this how is so scary that it's having an effect on the families sleeping habits, did they continue to stay in this house? Wouldn't it have made more sense to look for a home that everyone could feel comfortable and right at home in, especially the kids?
Then the home owner details some incidents that took place in that house. She describes feeling a cat step across her while in bed even though she doesn't have any cats. She mentions foot steps in the attack, and things flying off walls, as well as a door always getting stuck shut in the hallway. But to me, the creepiest occurrence was when she went up in the attic alone and went to pull the string to the light, only to have grabbed onto what felt like a human hand. This startled her to the point that she tumbled backward and down the stairs.
So the Ghost Hunters set up shop as usual and the first thing they check out is the door. Suddenly the door does get stuck on them but just when they seem to reference the most logical reason (something wrong with the door), they seem to just drop the subject all together and not even mention it at the reveal which I felt was odd. I must not be the only one out there that wanted to know what they found out about the door.
Then they venture into the living room. There they discover that the house is crooked and slanted and demonstrate this by rolling a ball. They even refer to this as the fun house effect. It seems like they are alluding to the fact that things falling in that room all the time could be attributed to this bad slant, yet interestingly enough, seem to omit this from their reveal later on.
Then up in the bed room they go. First they do some knockings at the seeing when they hear movement in the attic above and get some knocks in response. Pretty interesting. Then when they start provoking the spirit, a door violently slams shut right in the face of a crew member filming them. Then they decide to sit in a room on couches and experience a flying hanger, twice and minutes apart. The first time, the viewers hear it but do not see it. The second time around it just flys across. Yet, the viewers do not see it actually come flying straight from the open closet. Now at this point I would have figured they'd experiment at the closet to try to figure this out, yet they don't.
Meanwhile, Kris and Joe head upstairs to explore the attic. The first thing they notice is that the floor of the attic consists of very loose boards that easily wiggle when you walk. Then after a while of nothing happening they decide to separate. The only things scary up there that they seemed to have encountered was a wasps nest and "wall boogers" as Kris so colorfully puts it. No disembodied hand or much of anything else.
Finally it's wrap up time with evidence to pour over to see what they can find.
As far as the reveal, it seems that on one hand they mention being unsure if they found anything of use or ways to help the woman. Yet at the same time, they seemed to have had their mind all made up about what kind of entity this is, and why this entity does what they do. So much for being unsure. Then the woman tells them of an experience she had since they had been there. She describes falling asleep on the living room couch, while cooking corn. Suddenly, picture fell off the wall, waking her up. She was lucky because this caused her to get to the corn before burning the house down. Now I would think this would be a great time for Jason and Grant to mention just how crooked they found the living room to be. After all, this is a great reason why things are never stable in there and keep falling. Yet they didn't say one work about it, and instead encouraged her to consider this being a ghost trying to help. Then Jason proceeds to tell her that it's just a helpful harmless spirit trying to communicate with her. He knows this because why? It's a guess at best. Then Grant chimes in as a support for Jason's claims, about how people are mostly good. Geesh, you might think that bad people never die along with the good.
My over all impression was that it was an entertaining investigation to watch. I was still left wondering about the door jam, as well as why the woman was left in the dark about her crooked living room; and she may never know why she touched a hand in the attic. As far as evidence goes, most of it started outside of the camera range so one can not be certain that any disembodied soul was doing anything to anyone that night. It would all boil down to faith and the honor system for this episode.
