Why Pay for TAPS "Paramagazine" when...
Current mood: Forting
...you can read Who Forted for free?
In this troubled economy, money is tight. WF wants you to save that money, so we created a free, regularly updated online magazine that won't lie to you on national television. It's totally independent, completely hilarious, and brutally honest.
So put that money back in YOUR pocket, not into Jay and Grants. Besides, we all know that all their pocket space is taken up by fishing line already.
Do yourself a favor and read 'Who Forted', then buy yourself a value meal. Or some porno.
The moment that we've been waiting for for about three months is finally upon us. After much planning, digging through html code, and caffiene induced late night brainstorming sessions, we're finally happy to present to you our latest project : Who Forted?
WF is the result of an incident, or series of incidents, that occured three months ago. I'm sure that there's a few of you out there who remember our blogs performing a sudden disappearing act thanks to MySpace. We'd started doing weekly news updates that touched on a lot of serious issues in the paranormal community, but did so in a not so serious manner. People seemed to really enjoy them, and the blogs gained some serious speed in just a matter of weeks. Well, eventually some of the "celebrities" that didn't like being called on their crap got grumpy and started complaining. When that didn't work, they started threatening. And when that still didn't make us shut up, they got their lawyers.
Well, since we weren't doing anything illegal by any means, the lawyers couldnt do much. But they found a loophole in the MySpace terms of service. Apparently MySpace doesn't differentiate between writing about celebrities and writing about every day people, so they got our page deleted on a "cyber-bullying" clause. Oh, and lets not forget that these people's production companies pay MySpace a hefty advertising fee every now and then as well.
Image that, GHI deleted for making fun of Ryan Buell and a middle aged, mediocre radio show host who dresses up in tights. We'll call it a compliment, because now, three months later, we've been busier than ever and have literally doubled the amount of MySpace friends that we had at the time of our deletion. What we previously gained in four years, we doubled in three months. Thanks, douchebags.
Anyway, the whole lesson that this incident taught us was that there is a major problem going on in this community : censorship. While we were putting together the idea for WF, we looked around to see what kinds of news and media outlets existed for paranormal enthusiasts, outlets that really got down to the nitty gritty. Well, there's "TAPS Paramagazine"- simply another outlet for cashflow by TAPS, there's "Haunted Times" - run by renowned hoaxer Chris Moon, and there was The Fortean Times - an awesome UK magazine that unfortunately costs 15 bucks in the States. There's plenty of others, but not many of them are really worth mentoning (Edit for Alexandra Holzer:) and the ones that are worth mentioning, we plan on promoting the crap out of.
None of these magazines are made to be accessable to everyone. Either you have to actually give a damn about TAPS, believe that Chris Moon isn't full of crap, or have some deep pockets to import english magazines. We didn't like any of these options, and we didn't want to worry about having our blogs deleted for saying what everyone else was thinking, so we created an option of our own - an online magazine that isn't run by "celebrities" or their bosses, isn't run by people who's main goals are to make money and expand their media blanket, and isn't afraid of telling it like it is. It's accessable to anyone for free, regularly updated, and contributed to by anyone who has something intelligent, hilarious, or insightful to say. It's simply a publication by regular people with an irregular hobby.
This is not a GHI project. It's just a project started by the members of GHI. This doesn't have a GHI logo stamped on it, and it won't. We want this to stand on it's own, as it's own entity, without any alterior motives. In time, we hope to see many, many different articles and features written by people from all over the paranormal scene. Hell, even people who aren't from the scene. Diversity, honesty, and obviously humor, are key elements to this concept.
We could ramble on and on about what this project means, why it's here, what our hopes for it are, blah blah blah, but I think that actually taking a look at it will say enough. There's two regular features at this time : The weekly WFNews (a reincarnation of the regular blogs that got us deleted), and monthly horoscopes by the Astonishing Foust. You read that correctly. Nick Foust is our very own in-house psychic-astrologer. Qualifications? Like they need any. Expect more regular features in the near future, as well as a pretty consistant flow of unique featured articles by guest contributers, reviews, interviews, and more. And hey, if you've got an idea for an article, or if you'd like to submit an article, by all means get ahold of us.
If you like WF, do a favor : tell your friends. Link to it. Post it. Email it. The more people that read it, the more people that submit pieces to it. That's the whole point. A little word of mouth goes a long way.
Without further adieu, we're happy to present to you Who Forted? : The online paranormal magazine.
