Yeah, it's true that the Lutzs did live in that house. That's about where the truth ends.
Here's a little blurb on the hoax: The truth was never revealed. However certain information, which came to light later allows some educated guesses to be made. Although the house was fairly priced at eighty-thousand dollars, "People Magazine" found out that the Lutzs had only budgeted forty-thousand for their home purchase. Further, when they abandoned the house, the furniture they left behind was described as "cheap knock off". With these facts, it is easy to assume that the simplest solution is the correct one: money. The Lutzs had apparently gotten in over their head and this was the only solution they could find that to salvage something from impending financial disaster.
Within a year, the house had new owners, James and Barbara Cromarty and their children. "The book is completely untrue" Barbara told "People Magazine", "this is a lovely home." None of the Cromartys have ever seen or experienced any supernatural occurences. The only problems they have had have been from people wanting to see "The Amityville Horror." www.essortment.com/all/amityvillehorro_rmbf.htm

amityville horror is one of the scariest stories for me. First scary book I ever read. The movie only solidified the fear in me of this story.

Maybe you could also include that into this thread? phantasmahideout.proboards84.com/index.cgi?board=skeptic&action=display&thread=261That's where I have putting a whole artillary of info so that people can see that the amityville house is nothing to be scared of and the real monster that haunted that house one night, is still in prison today.

I think the survey on this thread is a bit confusing. Which account are we claiming is true on the survey--the Lutz's, the lawyers, the skeptics, the Warrens, etc...
I had to answer that I thought it was absolutely true--due to all of the accounts disagreeing with each other I figured that the only claim the survey could posit was that there actually was an Amityville story. Just my little attempt at humor--plus nobody wanted to believe in Amityville so I thought I would be a believer...instead of a social scientist for a change--they are so stuffy I hear...

when i see PGA i think the golf tournament...or is it what all those golfers belong too, i don't watch gold so i'm not sure.
and amittyville is just lame, i wish people would just leave it alone. but us humans are in love with death and the unusual. i read a story recently about how time magazine once said that women over 40 are more likely to be murdered then to marry. it was wrong, and they apologized but for some reason this myth stuck, i think that things like amitty are just like that.
