What are your thoughts on this? Should Susan Atkins be released from prison to live out her last days on earth, or remain right where she is? Manson follower Susan Atkins ill, mulled for release Jun 13, 2008 07:14 AM Associated Press CORONA, Calif. – Former Charles Manson follower Susan Atkins, convicted in the 1969 murder of actress Sharon Tate, could soon be released from prison because she is near death, authorities said. Atkins, 59, is terminally ill and being considered for so-called "compassionate release," state corrections spokeswoman Terry Thornton said. She gave no details of Atkins' illness, but said a doctor had determined she had less than six months to live. The corrections department was reviewing the request, which if approved would then be passed to the state Board of Parole which has the power to release Atkins under state law so they can die with loved ones, at their expense. full article... www.thestar.com/News/World/article/442754The thing that bugs me about these articles sometimes is they seem to omit the 8 month old fetus baby that was also killed inside of Sharon's stomach.

Hell no. Were Sharon Tate and her unborn child afforded the luxury to die with their loved ones? No. And thus is weak woman should not be released.

With that I would like to include some of Sharon's last words, and Susan Atkin's direct responses to them...
Sharon Tate: "Please — please don't kill me — I don't want to die. I just want to have my baby. "
And Susan Atkins response to that was.......
Drum rolls........
"Look, bitch, I have no mercy for you. You're going to die and you'd better get used to it"

I don't think anyone convicted of a violent crime should be released to die. If someone was doing twenty years for forgery and are gonna die in a few months than sure but no violent crimes.

I think she should die alone in her cell.

I agree. I don't believe in the death penalty, but I do believe in punishment. She should check out seeing the inside of that prison. IMO.

Nope, I think she should have been killed never mind early release. This is the problem with our country... we pay for these assholes to stay alive , we pay to give them food and shelter and protect them. But no one was there to protect the victims from the people we are protecting .. ackkkkkkkkkkkk dont get me going.

One of my biggest issues with this murderess in particular is the fact that she outright expressed her lack of compassion for her victim. This is why I posted the last exchange that took place between her and Sharon. Her victim, heard that lack of mercy sentence as the last sentence stated to her that she would ever hear. Susan Aktin's blame upon Charles Manson can only go so far. While she may have been under the influence of Manson, Manson certainly did not tell her to cut at the fetus, nor taste Sharon's blood, and he most certainly did not tell her to make that kind of statement. Those things came from within herself. In this case, just like she had no mercy on her own victims as she clearly stated that night as their last statement to hear alive, the state in return should not grant her the mercy to go die within the grasp of her loved ones.

I agree the death penalty in some cases is definately what I feel is the right thing to do. Not in all murders but in some of them. It costs so much to keep them alive.

I don't know much about Adkins and her present state of mind. I do believe what she did was very heinous. I wish she had simply been executed.
I didn't have any sympathy for Carla Faye Tucker, either. I do for Leslie Van Houten. Go figure.

see this is where the old school italian in me kicks in .. it should be an eye for an eye. You kill with zero compasion, then you should be killed or someone close to you without any compasion shown.
