Shakespeare should never be read unless you're getting ready to perform it. I love Shakespeare, but almost always find myself reading it out loud rather than just reading it.

It was just last year- Jason and Grant's book, written by Michael Jan Friedman, "Ghost Hunting"
I would give you an excerpt by way of example, but everybody's ears would bleed and it would just not be nice.

That's odd, because I've read Michael Jan Friedman's stuff before (mostly the Star Trek stuff) and he didn't seem all that bad. I wonder why this one missed the mark?

Performing Shakespeare is great, reading it is not so great. I had to perform part of Romeo and Juliet for English class in high school. I got to walk around all day in a medieval-style dress!

I never liked the stuff we had to read in high school. Wuthering Heights was the worst. I got kicked out of English class more than once for making jokes about that one.
I know it is supposed to be a classic, but I just can't get into books where nothing explodes and there are no robots.

Well, GG, perhaps you can pick up the book at a thrift store someplace and read for yourself. Michael Jan Friedman wrote it in Jason's "voice" mostly rehashing episodes we've all seen 25 times by now... 'nuff said.
