From someone who lost 100 pounds and has kept if off for over a year:
1) eat less calories than it requires to maintain your present weight
2) burn calories to get below the amount required to maintain your present weight.
Both are important. Exercise actually reduces your appetite. And muscle burns more calories than fat and looks better. You'll be amazed at how much energy exercise will give you.
3) Some foods make your hungrier than others. Low carb is popular because protein stabilizes your bloodsugar over a longer period of time. Potatoes make me hungry, but are extremely nutrient dense.

I walk one mile a day, half a mile to the mcdonalds where I have a diet coke and play vigourously in the playplace with my son, I climb in it and go thru the tunnels and slides with him for one hour then walk half mile back home. I work up a sweat and keep my heart rate up, have toned up a lot, and have lost seven pounds in a month of doing that. Wierd workout I know but it did the trick. I eat lots of veggies and have healthy snacks like some air pop popcorn and about 4 oz tilamook cheese with four low sodium ritz crackers that snack gives me protien and carbs for short term and long term energy. My son and I eat broccoli every day with a tiny bit of the country crock with omega three for lunch. I also take a multivitamin, calcium chew, and an omega three every day. I am in the best physical and mental shape I have been in my whole life, and have more energy than ever before. And I have a toddler!! I think a huge part of it is being active and eating right, but I feel like the omega three I have added with diet and supplements has helped regenerate my cell growth a lot, My body heals faster and my hair and nails grow faster and healthier, my vision has even gotten better, my prescription on my glasses went down this last year! I seriously think it's my miracle drug lol.

I did my usual walk and played in the jungle gym for about an hour and a half with logan. For breakfast had a small bowl cheerios with a few drops of honey, lunch I had some egg salad with light miracle whip made with olive oil instead of mayo and a few ritz crackers. the egg salad had onions pickles and olives in it, and a half potato with country crock omega three margarine. For dinner I am having cheese and half a chicken breast shredded into a tortillia and melted in the microwave. My snacks were diet soda (I need to lose the diet soda it has 30 mg of sodium) and some dried fruit pieces.

(((((((Chrissy)))))) Don't give up, girl. Your body is probably feeding itself sugar from your liver. It's not used to the regimen you're putting it through and is fighting back. It will eventually give up. Just stick to it. Another thing is that when you go to the gym and lift, you are gaining muscle and muscle is much heavier than fat. You will gain weight, but it's just muscle gain.
And, judging from your current avatar compared to earlier pictures, you look mahvelous. You're doing okay. The results will come in time. And, think of how much healthier you are now.

Muscle weighs, too. And takes up space. They may end up thinner but they will not LOOK nearly as good as you will.
You're not staying fat. You're gaining muscle. Big difference.
Have you been taking photos of your body each month? It's an easier way to tell how well you're doing.

Have you been taking photos of your body each month? It's an easier way to tell how well you're doing. That's a terrific suggestion, KK! Chrissy- I choked up a bit reading your post. I feel your frustration and pain there. I have to say that your pics that you posted compared to your avatar pic are truly amazing. YOU HAVE COME SO FAR. I think you're in a bit of a holding pattern- it's defeating, but normal. I stayed in one for two months one time and then experienced a watershed of weight loss. Hang in there, keep fighting the good fight- you WILL WIN.

Thank you guys for the support.. Im glad I started this thread. I went against all bad vibes today and took my hiney back to the gym . Did my cardio and my crunchs.. stuck to my diet and tried to keep a smile on my face I am going to give it another month with the gym. I thought back to last year when I dropped my original 60 and when i was going to the gym I was not loosing, when I stopped the gym and just started running/walking on my own it was working. I wonder if the gym just doenst work my specific body the same way that actually doing it on my own does.. if in a month nothing has changed im going to take a step back from the gym for a while and just do the walking/runnign on my own and see what that does.. thanks again you guys Im going to keep going ... somewhere down the line.. somethings gatta give..

One other thing to consider, Chrissy - working out draws water into your muscles, as well as rushes blood to the muscles. This is why body builders pump weights before they go on stage - it makes their muscles bigger. So it is possible that if you worked out shortly before your measurements, you were "pumped". Also - if the girls in your group who don't work out and eat chips are losing quickly, they are most likely losing lean body mass. Have you ever seen a flabby skinny person? That's what happens when weight is lost that is a lot of LBM. If you eat adequate protein (about 80-102 grams a day), you'll maintain your LBM. I'm not sure what your height/weight is so I can't say exactly how much you'd need. Mike Eades has a chart of protein requirements for height/weight in Protein Power Life Plan. Hang in there. I've been at a plateau for about three months now - sometimes the body just needs to catch up with itself. One more thing just for you - an article called "Why the Scale Can Lie." This is on the Atkins website - but it applies no matter what weight loss choice you make as far as diet/exercise goes. www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-low-carb-dieting-faqs/6737-why-scales-can-lie.html
