That article is incredible!! One of the best I've ever read. I always wondered why I could diet like crazy but the weight on the scales would hang on longer than I thought it "should."

I need to tone up my stomach and have tried everything anyone have ideas? The stomach is always tough for us women! lol I do pilates and it has really helped me, but it does take awhile. I do pilates once a week and an aerobic class once a week. Sometimes I do the ab workouts from pilates at home too.

I need to tone up my stomach and have tried everything anyone have ideas? Get one of those huge exercise balls and sit on it throughout the day - like while you are at your computer. Keep your back straight and your abs in - this will strengthen your core.

Quit now, Krystal! Don't do that! I smoked for 22 years (quit now for 14). Quitting was the most horrible thing I've ever gone through. Please, please quit now while it's still new.

I don't know if this will help any of you who are stuck or not, but I also do something called Intermittent Fasting (IF). Essentially it method of caloric restriction - where occasionally I don't eat until dinner time and then try to take in my full protein requirement for the day in a 2 hour eating window in the evening. The theory behind IF comes from evolutionary biology. Essentially, our ancestors (the cavemen) would often go for periods of time where food was scarce or abundant. So the theory is that the human body is actually adapted to going for periods of time without food, and doing so can confer many health benefits including in blood pressure, reduction in oxidative damage to lipids, protein and DNA, improvement in insulin sensitivity and glucose uptake, as well as decreases in fat mass. Here is an abstract from the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition about IF (also called alternate day fasting). www.ajcn.org/cgi/content/full/86/1/7. Beyond insulin sensitivity, it appears that caloric restriction and intermittent fasting may “turn on” certain genes that repair specific tissues that would not otherwise be repaired in times of surplus. So, the way that I do intermittent fasting is that maybe two or three times a week, I just don't eat until 4:30 or 5, and then I can eat within a two hour window from when I start. The other thing that IF has done for me is helped me to tune into true hunger. Sometimes people who are struggling with weight issues don't have any recollection of what true hunger is - and they mistake the emotional need to eat with a true physical need to eat. This isn't for everyone. I would make sure that you are free of blood sugar issues before trying it. If you want to try, I suggest easing into it very slowly - starting by maybe not eating until 11 a.m. and then eating during a six hour eating window. Then work your way up until you can go the full day. If, at any time, you feel weak or shaky, then by all means, eat. The goal is to start to listen to your body and begin to respond to its true hunger signals - while also giving your body an occasional break from having to deal with food all of the time. I do this in combination with my "ancestral diet" that I eat (which I eat out of self-defense because I'm allergic to so much stuff). Because I primarily eat protein, veggies and berries, it winds up being a low carb diet - which also helps to stablize blood sugar and control hunger. Some people do it every day - but I think that gets your body used to a pattern of eating and could cause a starvation response. The trick with IF is to keep your body off balance and occasionally surprise it with a period of fasting. Studies have shown that this doesn't trigger the starvation response. I did a lot of research before I decided to try IF. Actually, because I have so many food sensitivities, I've done a lot of research about the best way to eat for me. The way I look at health, nutrition and weight loss is that there are a lot of ways to get there from here - and you just need to find what is best for you. If you do decide to try IF, I can't stress how important it is that you get your protein requirement for your height and weight in your 2 hour eating window. This prevents LBM wasting - and you want to keep your LBM because that is what drives your metabolism. If you want to know what your protein requirement is for your height/weight, feel free to PM me, and I'll look it up.

Okay I kind of typo'd there I meant to say, again, or more. I have smoked since I was 16, quit when we started trying to get pregnant, and after I quit nursing my son I have smoked occasionally, (like once a week, or on an occasion we go to the bar) but lately I have been smoking as much as I used to which is about 4 or 5 cigs a day. So basically theres no hope for me allready lol.

This is going to piss you off, but you are just going to have to suck it up.
So you have an autistic child in the house and you are smoking 4 or 5 cigs a day? For Christ's sake stop. That crap is just nasty.

That crap is just nasty. You didn't piss me off. My child has not been diagnosed as autistic, and I would never smoke inside my home or anywhere near him. I am sorry if you feel I am harming him in some way, I don't feel as if I am, and my opinion is the important one.
